Lewis Long, Josh Reed and Jack Shore all walked away with victories on a lively night of fights at the Newport Centre.

Welsh welterweight star Lew Long picked up an 18-second TKO victory over Che Mills in the main event of Cage Warriors 83 in Newport, but the win didn’t come in the manner he was hoping for.

Mills was ruled out with an injury to his right leg as the fight stopped immediately after the very first takedown of the bout torqued the former UFC man’s knee and forced a premature end to the eagerly-awaited contest.

The Welsh fans in the Newport Arena weren’t left shortchanged, however, as the other two Welshmen on the card produced superb displays to further their respective careers.

Bantamweight Josh Reed had the crowd on its feet as he produced a blistering performance to stop Gavin Kelly via first-round KO.

Kelly looked to use his kicks to score early on, but soon the Welshman found a home for his heavy hands as the bout swung decisively in his favour.

And another talented Welsh prospect, featherweight Jack ‘Tank’ Shore, put on arguably the most impressive performance of his young career to date with a dominant first-round finish of Frenchman Konmon Deh.

Shore took down Deh early in the round and kept him on the mat, working his way to the mount position before eventually locking up an armbar to force the submission.

Also on the main card, a quickfire one-two from Giovanni Melillo saw him claim a decisive first-round KO win over former welterweight title challenger Mohsen Bahari.

The Italian and the Norwegian locked up against the cage, but when they broke, Melillo unleashed a flurry of hooks that sent Bahari crashing to the mat.

And the man known as ‘The True Viking’, Denmark’s Soren Bak, turned in a dominant grappling display on his Cage Warriors debut as he smothered, bloodied and bruised veteran Scott Clist over three rounds.

Lew Long def Che Mills via TKO (injury) - Round 1
Soren Bak def Scott Clist via unanimous decision (30-25, 30-25, 30-24)
Josh Reed def Gavin Kelly via KO (punches) - Round 1
Giovanni Melillo def Mohsen Bahari via knockout (punches) - Round 1
Jack Shore def Konmon Deh via submission (armbar) - Round 1
