CWFC 45: Reese v Wheeler
BRAD WHEELER is bracing himself for a tough challenge at Cage Warriors 45 in London on February 18, with James Reese stepping in to take on the Romford lightweight at the HMV Forum.
Wheeler (7-5-0) was due to face Norman Parke but the Irishman was forced to withdraw from the bout recently due to a hand injury.
Reese (5-2-0), who hails from Michigan, has an impressive wrestling background and went 2-0 on Bellator undercards, defeating Bounmy Somchay and Martin Brown.
The 31-year-old made his Strikeforce debut as a late replacement to face Bobby Green in November but suffered a third round submission defeat.
Cage Warriors matchmaker Ian Dean said: “Everyone at Cage Warriors was sad to see Norman Parke withdraw and after a few other domestic alternatives fell through, we decided to bring in an international fighter and I’m delighted to have James Reese on the show.
“He’s got big show experience and he won’t be intimidated by the home support Wheeler will have. His wrestling credentials will also test Wheeler as he’s fought domestic opposition throughout his career so far.”
