CWFC and Wilkinson part company
CAGE WARRIORS Fighting Championship can confirm that Aaron Wilkinson (11-6) is no longer contracted exclusively to the promotion.
The English welterweight has been released from a deal that was scheduled to expire in January, having fought three times for the promotion since making his CWFC debut in July of last year.
Cage Warriors CEO Graham Boylan explained that although Wilkinson’s contract is due to remain valid for another three months, the fighter is now free to pursue other options.
“Aaron is contractually committed to Cage Warriors until January 2014, but we don’t have any plans for him to compete between now and then,” said Boylan.
“We don’t intend to offer Aaron a new deal so it makes sense for us both to part company sooner rather than later. I wish Aaron the very best with his career, which I’m sure will be a success on the back of a big win last weekend.”
Wilkinson debuted for CWFC at Cage Warriors 48 in July 2012 when he submitted Leigh Cohoon in the first round of their bout at The Forum in London.
The 26-year-old Manchester native dropped a decision loss to Alan Johnston last December, but rebounded with a second-round TKO of Bola Omoyele this past Saturday.
Boylan added: “We’ve got four more big shows scheduled between now and the end of the year but all cards are already stacked, so unfortunately there’s no room for Aaron to fight once more before his contract expires.”
