CWFC champ Seery moves to the UFC
Cage Warriors Fighting Championship flyweight title-holder Neil Seery has been released from his contract with the promotion.
Seery (13-9) has vacated the belt in order to take up an offer from the Ultimate Fighting Championship, with the 34-year-old Irishman set to make his UFC debut against Brad Pickett in London on March 8.
A native of Dublin, Seery competed six times for CWFC on his way to making history by becoming the promotion’s first ever 125lbs champion.
“I’m really looking forward to making my UFC debut but I’d like to thank Cage Warriors for giving me the opportunities that have gotten me to this stage,” said Seery.
“I’m very grateful for that and being their first flyweight champion has been the highlight of my career.”
Having put together a 4-1 record under the Cage Warriors banner, Seery then defeated Mikael Silander to clinch the inaugural flyweight title at CWFC 55 in his hometown of Dublin in June 2013.
Cage Warriors CEO Graham Boylan said: “I want to thank Neil for putting on some outstanding performances for us over the last few years and for always being a pleasure to deal with.
“He’s one of the hardest-working fighters in the sport and I wish him the very best in the UFC. Personally I’m also looking forward to the fight.
“Seery and Pickett have a lot in common; they’re a similar age, they started their careers at around the same time and neither fighter has been KO’d. Seery is 6-1 in his last seven fights. This is a Rocky story.”
