CWFC Fight Night 5 headliners set sights on champ Hayes
12/04/2012
BOBBY BRENTS and DJ Linderman will clash in tonight’s main event at CWFC Fight Night 5 in Amman, but both men have got their eyes on the biggest prize in the Cage Warriors heavyweight division.
This evening’s bout is being billed as a number one contender fight, with recently-crowned champion Mike ‘300’ Hayes waiting in the long grass to make his first defence of the belt he captured by defeating Andreas Kraniotakes at Fight Night 4 in Dubai last month.
Illinois native Brents (12-2-0) is confident of victory tonight at the New Boxing Arena in the Jordanian capital.
The 29-year-old Fiore MMA fighter is searching for his second win in succession over a Bellator veteran, having submitted Rogent Lloret in the first round of their Cage Warriors 45 meeting in London back in February.
“Mike Hayes, he’s another heavyweight I’m not really impressed with,” said Brents.
“It does take a decent amount to impress me. I consider myself one of the better guys on the circuit. He fights tough, but hopefully I’ll get this win so I can take my belt that he’s been holding for me.”
There’s certainly no love lost between Linderman (10-3-0) and Hayes since their fight in May 2009, which Linderman won by unanimous decision.
Fighting out of Brave Legion in California, 28-year-old Linderman said: “I had a fight against him [Hayes], I won by decision, but he feels like he should have won that fight.
“Well, he has another chance, because I’m going to come out, beat Bobby Brents and I’m going to step in there against him. I’ve seen Mike Hayes’ last fight and it wasn’t too impressive.
“He had a couple of good swings out there, but he doesn’t have what it takes to beat me. I’ve grown as a fighter since our last fight; he doesn’t have what it takes.
“If me and Mike Hayes go at it again, I think it’s going to be a quicker fight. It’s either going to be a submission or a TKO, first round, no doubt about it.”
Watch Bobby Brents and DJ Linderman go head-to-head in the main event at CWFC Fight Night 5 tonight. Live from Amman, Jordan on MMAJunkie.com, the main card starts at 7pm (UK), with three pro prelims on Facebook at 6pm.
