Dan Hardy vs. Daizo Ishige At Cage Force (Japan)
The current Cage Warriors Under 73kg Champion Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy will take on the Welterweight King of Pancrase Daizo Ishige (8-1-1) in Tokyo, Japan on May 27th in the Quarter Finals of the GCM Cage Force Welterweight Tournament. For more information on this Tournament and event go to www.g-c-m.net or http://www.thefightgame.tv/gcm_cage_force_may_27_2007.htm
Hardy (13-5-0-1nc) is known for his striking, attitude and exciting fighting style which has made him one of the UK’s most popular fighters. However Hardy is 0-3 in fights away from the UK, and will be wanting to break that duck when he takes on the Sambo stylist Daizo Ishige (8-1-1) in May.
Ishige who has 7 winds by decision, likes to stand and strike but does lack power and may opt to take this fight to the floor to exploit the potential weaknesses in Hardy’s ground game. However the confident British fighter has recently spent some time training at the Legends MMA gym in the USA and will be looking to put that training into good use when he makes his Japanese debut on May 27th.
This fight has been closely followed by the Japanese MMA press and is more evidence that the GCM/WWCN connection is really paying off for Cage Warriors and its fighters. The WWCN Director Gen Isono flew out to the USA last weekend to UFC Fight Night with GCM veteran “K-Taro” Nakamura to further the WWCN’s international links.
The winner of this bout between Hardy and Ishige will take on Hidetaka Monma (13-6-3) in the Semi Finals in September, with the final tentatively scheduled for December. Monma defeated Finnish fighter Janne Tulirinta in their Quarter Final bout in March.
