Declan Kid Dynamite Williams To Fight At Fight Festival 26 In Finland
The young British Bantamweight fighter Declan “Kid Dynamite” Williams (2-0-1) faces the toughest test of his career next weekend, as he travels to Helsinki, Finland to face the unbeaten 20 year old Finnish prospect Janne Elonen-Kulmala (2-0-0) in an under 60kg / 132lbs bout at Fight Festival 26.
After initially wanting to be a pro wrestler; Declan Williams took up Mixed Martial Arts after meeting top UK lightweights Rob and Mick Sinclair, and first competed in the UK MMA scene as an amateur in 2007. He soon switched to the “Semi Pro” ranks, where he impressed on shows in and around northern England, amassing a 7-3-0 “Semi Pro” record in the process.
Williams eventually turned Pro in February 2009 where he scored an impressive first round TKO win over Niko Gjoka at The Champions 4 show in Bradford. Williams then found himself facing a possible fight against Europe’s top Bantamweight fighter Paul McVeigh in the first round of the ill-fated British Fighting Championship GP.
As a result the Team Warriors Elite member took a bout against the vastly experienced Cage Rage veteran Mark Chen at The Champions 5 event in May. Despite being put under tremendous pressure throughout the contest, Williams was able to walk away from the Main Event of the evening with a draw, after soaking up most of Chen’s attack early on in the contest, before rallying towards the end of the fight.
Then with the demise of the BFC GP; Williams took some time out and returned a few months later, just five days after his 25th birthday in August, where he dispatched his former Semi Pro foe James Martin by TKO in round 3 of their bout at Cage Conflict 2. Now Williams returns to action and travels overseas to make his European debut at Fight Festival which is one of Europe’s best and also most underrated MMA shows.
Despite it will be his first bout of the year, Williams’ opponent, Janne Elonen-Kulmala (2-0-0) should not be underestimated. A native of Finland, Fight Festival Elonen-Kulmala has competed previously at where he defeated the 5-3-0 Dutchman Jordy Peute last year by decision. He then followed up that performance by stopping the Swedish fighter Nicklas Bergman by TKO at a M-1 Challenge show last year. Rated as “one to watch” by insiders of the Finnish scene, Elonen-Kulmala will want to keep his unbeaten record intact, as both men look to make their mark in an ever competitive European Bantamweight division.
