Duffy returns to training
IRISH lightweight Joseph Duffy has returned to the gym this week for the first time since his clash with Ivan Musardo at Cage Warriors 44.
Duffy, who suffered a surprise defeat to the Italian in the CWFC lightweight title bout in London on October 1, sustained a double fracture to his left hand during Round 3 of the fight, breaking two metacarpals.
The 23-year-old subsequently underwent surgery to repair the damage but has made a swift recovery, allowing him to return to some light training yesterday.
“The recovery has been good,” said Duffy. “I’m already making a fist but it’ll be another three weeks before I can start any light padwork with it.
“For now I’ll just be trying to build my fitness back up, as well as doing some basic drilling. But it feels great to be back doing a bit because I’ve never had this long a break from training.”
While Duffy won’t be contemplating a return to the cage until the new year, the Welsh-based fighter is already looking forward to being back in action.
He said: “I’ve been like a caged animal recently. I’ve been trying to help coach the lads in the gym for their fights, so that’s probably the only thing that has kept me sane.
“I can’t wait for 2012. The Cage Warriors calendar looks really exciting, with shows all over the world. Who wouldn’t want to be part of that?”
