Everything you need to know about CWFC 48…
21/07/2012
IT’S a landmark weekend in the history of Cage Warriors Fighting Championship, as we celebrate 10 years of top-class MMA with Cage Warriors 48.
The organisation’s very first show – Cage Warriors: Armageddon – took place in July 2002. Ten years and 54 shows later we’re back in London, where it all began, for our eighth show of 2012.
It happens tonight at the HMV Forum in Kentish Town and it’ll be headlined by a clash of two of Europe’s best middleweights.
THE SHOW
John Phillips (15-5-0-1nc) had been scheduled to take on Faycal Hucin, but when Hucin was forced to withdraw a fortnight ago due to injury, Chris Fields (9-3-0) stepped in to take his place.
Depending on the fitness of middleweight title tournament finalist Victor Cheng, the winner of tonight’s meeting of Phillips and Fields could secure a title shot against Pavel Kusch at CWFC Fight Night 7 in Jordan on September 1.
Due to the late notice at which Fields accepted the fight, it will now be contested at a catchweight of 192lbs.
Having recently signed an exclusive deal with Cage Warriors, Ultimate Fighter 12 contestant Aaron Wilkinson (9-5-0) debuts for the organisation in a welterweight bout against fellow Manchester native Leigh Cohoon (8-5-0).
Brett Sizeland (6-1-0) faces into the biggest fight of his career so far against veteran middleweight Denniston Sutherland (16-8-0) and Jack Mason (20-10-0) has his first bout at welterweight against hot prospect Danny Roberts (6-1-0).
Also on the main card for Cage Warriors 48, ex-Ultimate Fighter lightweight Ido Pariente (12-5-0) makes the journey from Israel to take on Dale Hardiman (8-3-0) and Kris Edwards (7-3-0) cuts to flyweight for the first time to face Brian Hyslop (5-1-0).
THE TV COVERAGE
All six bouts will stream live on MMAJunkie.com from 9pm (UK). However, due to the terms of Cage Warriors’ broadcast agreement with Sky Sports, this will not be available in the UK and Ireland.
Three of our prelims – Mortimore v Lake, Ptaskinski v Toczydlowski & Del Gaudio v Faulds – will be free to watch worldwide on our Facebook page from 8pm (UK).
Cage Warriors 48 will be shown on Sky Sports 4 on Wednesday night at 10.30pm (UK).
