The Cage Warriors Fighting Championship returned to Ireland on May 28th with CWFC 42, which took place at the Neptune Stadium in Cork City.  You can watch highlights from all five main bouts by clicking on the quick video recap of this event from our friends at The Fight Network here.

The CWFC second outing to Ireland was headlined by a Lightweight bout between the unbeaten Irishman Joseph Duffy and the Spaniard Oriol Gaset.  On paper this was the Welsh based Irishman’s toughest test to-date but Duffy passed it with flying colours and showed why he is one of Europe’s best young prospects by opening-up his opponent with some sharp ground and pound that forced a Referee’s stoppage midway through round 1.

Whilst the former ‘HIT Squad’ prospect Jake “Hitman” Hecht returned to Cage Warriors, as he faced the Englishman Craig “The Thundercat” White in a Middleweight match-up. Hecht, who has spent several months teaching at the Boxing Clinic gym in Cork, had the backing of the home town fans from the start as was able to improve his record to 9-2 after submitting his opponent with a North-South Choke, with just 2 seconds remaining in the second stanza.

The SBG Ireland pairing of Chris “The Killing” Fields and Cathal “The Punisher” Pendred were also victorious in front of the live television audience.  As Fields defeated the long time German veteran Mario “Serious” Stapel by TKO in Middleweight division action, as the former CWFC Title challenger was unable to continue early in round 3 due to a leg injury. Whilst Pendred defeated the Cork City Combat Sambo fighter Vlad Malko by TKO in round 2 of their bout, as Pendred used both his size and wrestling to force a stoppage.

Whilst the first televised bout of the bout ended in spectacular fashion as the talented Welshman Tim Newman scored a highlight reel KO of the vastly experienced Polish late replacement Grzegorz Tredowski.  Newman’s stunning left hook ended the contest in just ten seconds and has since gone viral thanks to the MMA media posting the fight on their websites.
