Cage Warriors To Make Their Middle East Debut This Thursday In Amman, Jordan
The Cage Warriors Fighting Championship continue their busy 2011 schedule on Thursday night, as they present Cage Warriors Fight Night 1 at the luxurious Le Royal Hotel in Amman, Jordan.
This will be the first time the long standing UK based promotion has organised an event in the Middle East and it will see up-and-coming talent from across the local area and North Africa battle it out on the undercard. Whilst the main card will feature established fighters from Europe and the United States in bouts that will be streamed live online via CageWarriors.com and broadcast around the world on Television.
Headlining the card is a Heavyweight clash between the top 10 UK ranked prospect Jay “Mean Streak” Mortimore (6-1-0) and the respected German powerhouse Andreas “Big Daddy” Kraniotakes (9-4-0). Mortimore makes his first appearance for Cage Warriors after signing a multi-fight deal last month and will look to secure his fourth TKO win in a row when he faces his German opponent on Thursday night.
This bout marks the first time the Team Lionheart member will fight outside of the south west of England where he holds two Titles. The Exeter native arrives in Amman, riding high on the back of an impressive win against the North East based fighter Chris Petrie last month. With his solitary career loss against the former CWFC Champion Tengiz Tedoradze now fading in the background, this could be the perfect time for the Englishman to make the push to European level by scoring the biggest win of his career to-date.
Although he may be known to the casual fan for his appearance as a playable character in the EA Sports MMA video game; Andreas Kraniotakes is an established veteran of the European MMA scene having fought in his native Germany and more recently in the World Freefight Challenge events in Slovenia and Serbia. Like his British counterpart; Kraniotakes is known for his power which has seen 8 of his 9 wins coming by way of strikes. However “Big Daddy” also has past experience in Judo competition and has faced higher calibre opposition throughout his career. He’ll be looking to get back to winning ways after suffering a submission loss against the rising Croatian Heavyweight talent Ajlin Ahmic in Serbia back in April.
With both fighters having a combined total of 12 wins by strikes during their career, this Main Event promises to deliver fireworks when these heavy hitting Heavyweights collide inside the cage.
Whilst in the night’s co-main, Jake “Hitman” Hecht (9-2-0) returns to the CWFC cage following his second round submission win over Craig White last month in Ireland. Hecht will face the experienced Italian Michele Verginelli (13-8-1) in a Middleweight match-up. A former Sanda world champion and Karate Blackbelt; Verginelli has a wealth of experience and has fought around the world since making his MMA debut 13 years ago and is unbeaten in his last five bouts. Whilst Hecht, a former HIT Squad standout is known primarily for his wrestling prowess, and has spent the last few months teaching at the Boxing Clinic in Ireland. He’ll be looking to make it three straight wins in 2011 following his decision loss to Che Mills at CWFC 38 last October.
A UK vs. France Lightweight encounter also features on the card as the M-1 veteran Dan Hope (8-2-0) takes on the undefeated French striker Jean N’Doye (4-0-0). Hope, who trains out of the Dinky Ninja Fight Team in Scotland, travels to Jordan for his first fight of the year and will look to get back-to-back wins following his loss last summer to Rashid Magomedov in Sochi, Russia. Whilst N’Doye quietly racked-up a 3-0 record on the German circuit before scoring a huge win last month over the experienced Welsh Lightweight Daniel Thomas at Valley of Kings in Cardiff. With both men known for their contrasting striking skillset this could well be another explosive affair.
The night’s other Heavyweight contest pits the former M-1 Team England Heavyweight Dave Keeley (4-2-0) against the American Joel Wyatt (9-5-0). Keeley is no stranger to big fights having previously faced UFC veterans Neil Wain and Jeff Monson in his short MMA career. Whilst “The Iron Giant” has also seen action in Holland and Korea where he picked-up wins against the Spaniard Paco Estevez and the Ukrainian kickboxer Vitaly Oparin.
However Joel Wyatt is no stranger to top opposition having squared off against the likes of the current Bellator Champion Cole Konrad, the UFC veteran Kevin Jordan and the XFC standout Chris Barnett. Wyatt will use his trip to Amman to get back to winning ways and use his background in BJJ and Judo to negate a near 11 inch height disadvantage when he faces the Englishman inside the cage.
A late addition to the card sees the Swedish Middleweight star and The Zone FC Champion Victor Cheng (7-1-0) face the unbeaten SBG Ireland fighter John Michael Sheil (4-0-0). Whilst starting the live televised card is an all English clash, as the Cage Warriors regular Pat Vickers (2-2-0) looks to get back to winning ways when he takes-on the unbeaten Nottingham based fighter Leon Del Gaudio (2-0-0) in a Lightweight bout.
MMA fans in Amman can see the fighters first at the live weigh-ins which will take place inside the Virgin Megastore at the City Mall at 7pm (local time) on Wednesday night.
