Warrior Promotions are sad to announce the cancellation of the Lightweight Superfight between Ian “M-16” Butlin and AJ Wenn, which was due to take place at the M-1 Challenge show on September 27th in Nottingham, England.

This bout was due to feature the return of Ian Butlin after sustaining an injury in his previous bout against the German based Turkish all-rounder Cengiz Dana in April. But despite having a good build-up and training camp for the fight, Butlin sustained another injury in a freak accident which occurred outside of his training regime.

Butlin wished to carry on with his preparation despite this injury, however the Huddersfield fighter has been withdrawn by his management team. Andy Lillis (Butlin’s manager) told Cagewarriors.com that he alone made the decision to withdraw Butlin, despite vigorous protests from the former amateur boxer. Lillis said he did not want Butlin to return to action and risk further injury, as he is clearly unable to fight in the near future and had to be withdrawn for his own good to prevent serious long term damage.

After speaking to Wenn’s management both sides agreed to cancel the bout due to Wenn preparing exclusively for a bout against the talented striker in September and not having enough time to adequately prepare for a new opponent. Also with Wenn’s British CFC Title defence in October, both sides agreed it would be mutually beneficial to cancel the bout now and concentrate on other other projects.

Warrior Promotions would like to apologise to fans who were looking forward to this bout and hope to have both fighters on future Warrior Promotions events in the future. Warrior Promotions would also like to wish Ian Butlin a speedy recovery from this unfortunate incident, whilst also wishing AJ Wenn the very best of luck for his future endeavours and finally thank Wenn’s management team for their understanding and professionalism throughout this process.

However the M-1 Challenge event is still taking place on September 27th at the Harvey Hadden Sports Centre in Nottingham and will feature four International teams hoping to qualify for the finals in Japan on New Year’s Eve. As the mighty Russian Red Devils take on a multi talented USA team. Whilst the Russian Legion take on a World Team who are riding high at present.

This prestigious International event will be hosted by Warrior Promotions. owners of Cage Warriors Fighting Championship, in Nottingham as a pre-cursor to introducing the first ever British Team into the M-1 Challenge Tournament next year.

With that in mind there will be an additional 3 “Superfights” as UK based fighters look to impress in this new global event. These Superfights include the eagerly awaited Heavyweight rematch between local favourite and former Pro boxing star Wayne Buck, as he attempts to seek redemption against the Italian Muay Thai fighter Matteo “The Brutal” Minonzio.

There will also be an all-British Middleweight Superfight between two Cage Warriors regulars, as submission specialist Cliff Hall faces the Muay Thai fighter fighter Christian Smith in an exciting local derby. Hall is 3-0 during 2008 since moving up to Middleweight, whilst Smith will be looking to show the grit and determination which has made him a fan favourite in the Midlands, after a brief layoff due to injury.

The last Superfight will see a clash between two top ranked UK Welterweights as the 2h2h Road to Japan and two time British Title holder Jim Wallhead tackles the rising young Team Ultimate Force star; Jason Ball. Both men are on great form and are coming off a string of impressive victories. Both men will be looking to push themselves onto bigger things when they meet on September 27th on this great international occasion.

As well as this exciting and innovative event; Warrior Promotions are also proud to announce a seminar featuring the former Pride FC star and current Red Devil Team Member & Coach, Aleksander Emelianenko. This international star is the younger brother of the formidable WAMMA Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko, and sports an impressive MMA record of 11-3 having fought some of the best names in the MMA world. He will be conducting a seminar with his team and will be looking to pass on some of the skills which have seen his team rise to the top of the MMA tree.

That’s not all as UK MMA Legend Ian “The Machine” Freeman, the young upcoming MMA star & current Cage Warriors Champion, Gegard Mousasi and the UFC Welterweight Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy will also be attending this Seminar and the M-1 Challenge show later on in the day. This Seminar will take place between 12.00 pm to 3.00 pm on the day of the event.
