Jim Wallhead Returns In Style At Ultimate Force With Another KO Win
“Judo” Jim Wallhead increased his professional Mixed Martial Arts record to 16-5-0 on Saturday night at the Doncaster Dome, when he scored a huge Knockout win over the game Brazilian Fabio Toldo at Ultimate Force: Oblivion.
Wallhead entered the cage for the first time in nearly eight months after battling numerous frustrations which saw him go to the UFC ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ eliminators in Liverpool as an alternate earlier this year before being sent home without fighting despite being tipped to win it all. Wallhead then suffered injury and illness which delayed the start of his 2009 campaign until last week. Nevertheless the Loughborough based 25 year old was keen to show why he has earned the tag as one of the best unsigned UK talents out there with his forth consecutive win.
However things didn’t necessarily go to plan early on for the Team Rough House fighter as he showed some ring rust against the relatively unknown but highly skilled Brazilian and it took a flash knock down early in round 1 to wake Wallhead up, as Toldo got the best of the early exchanges with some stiff leg kicks before landing some swift punches and a a sharp punch which sent Wallhead down.
As he touched down on the canvas Wallhead used his experience to get himself out of trouble and soon found himself clinching with the Brazilian by the fence and then sprawled out of two takedown attempts when the action went back to the middle of the cage. Wallhead then slowly started to find his range and eventually landed a stunning right hand shot which wobbled the Brazilian and sent the Englishman on the attack as he was able to chase down Toldo and connected with a huge shot which sent the Brazilian crashing to the canvas midaway through the round. The initial blow would have probably ended the fight before Wallhead pounced with three swooping ground shots to secure the win.
Relief on the face of Wallhead was evident as he celebrated inside the cage with his Rough House team mates, which included UFC star Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy and TUF 9 contestant Andre Winner to name just a few. However despite a slow start Wallhead showed despite his long break he still has what it takes to reach the top of the UK and European scene. As news of his KO win broke, he soon started to attract numerous offers from promoters in the UK and beyond, as Wallhead continues on his quest to break through into the World’s elite events.
Other action from this exciting card saw Danny Micthell capture the vacant Ultimate Force European Welterweight Title when he defeated Lee Doski by heel hook in round 1 of their bout. Whilst Jason Ball scored a sensational Knock Out over the Cage Warriors World Lightweight Champion Alexandre Izidro in round 1 of their contest. Whilst local favourites Ian Jones and Wayne “Mayhem” Murrie suffered mixed fortunes in their bouts, as Jones was submitted by the Irishman Tom Maguire whilst Murrie defeated TUF 9 fighter James Bateman. in a highly entertaining match-up. Whilst late replacement Chris Stringer submitted Neil Fraser in round 3 of their Lightweight encounter.
