Magomedov out, Furness in

31/08/2012

THERE has been a late change to tomorrow night’s card for CWFC Fight Night 7, which takes place at the New Boxing Arena in King Hussein Youth City, Amman, Jordan.

Marat Magomedov, who had been due to take on Artem Lobov on the preliminary card, withdrew from their featherweight bout following today’s weigh-ins. However, a top-class replacement has been drafted in.

Jay Furness (7-2-0), ranked as one of the UK’s top 25 featherweights, has stepped up to replace Magomedov. Furness has defeated the likes of Liam James in the past and his only two defeats have come at the hands of highly-rated Brazilian Freddy Assuncao and the UFC’s Andy Ogle.

Due to the late notice, Artem Lobov versus Jay Furness will be fought at a catchweight of 165lbs.

“Losing a fighter the day before the show is a nightmare scenario but I have to take my hat off to both Jay Furness and Artem Lobov here,” said Cage Warriors CEO Graham Boylan.

“Jay is a warrior and I have the utmost admiration for him for taking a fight in these circumstances. Artem has also been fantastic for agreeing to the fight without hesitation.

“Also, having seen both guys fight on plenty of occasions, I can assure you that we’ve now got another very strong contender for ‘Fight of the Night’.”
