The Cage Warriors Fighting Championship is proud to announce the signing of the 20 year old Northern Irish Welterweight Mervyn “The Mad Man” Mulholland to an exclusive multi fight deal.

Based in Larne, Northern Ireland; Mulholland is a life long martial artist having trained in various styles since the age of five and holds a 4th Dan Black Belt in Juku Ryu Jiu Jitsu. His love of Martial Arts saw him learn his trade the right way as he amassed a solid 5-1-0 Amateur/Semi Pro record on local shows before turning pro in August 2009.

‚Ä®Despite having less than two years experience in the paid ranks, the IFS team member has impressed on the Irish and UK circuit and has quickly gained an 8-4 professional record. Known for his exciting fight style which has seen all of his eight wins come inside the distance with 3 TKO’s and 5 Submissions, Mulholland has earned a reputation for being a hungry up-and-coming fighter who is keen showcase his skills on a regular basis.

Despite describing his current style as a mix of Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Mulholland enjoys working on all aspects of the game and has shown great commitment to his cause with a punishing training regime. The talented youngster starts his day by working on his conditioning before starting his day job as an apprentice joiner, whilst after work he trains under the guidance of Paul McLaughlin and Colin Dunn at the International Fighting Systems Gym in Antrim.

Mulholland’s commitment continues throughout the weekend as he works as a doorman to help fund his training, whilst he makes sure he attends the 8am Saturday morning training session and the infamous Sunday “Beasting” sessions, which as Mulholland jokes “Is tough as hell, but I love it!”

This toughness has seen the Northern Irishman not only create a storm of publicity on local Irish circuit but has also seen him capture several Titles, as he currently holds the ISKA Irish Welterweight Title, the Chaos FC Welterweight Title and the 10th Legion British Welterweight Title.

Now Mulholland is ready to step it up a gear and climb the ranks of a stacked Cage Warriors 170lbs division which features a plethora of top UK and European talent. However this does not faze the talented Welterweight who was quoted as saying “Cage Warriors is one of the top Promotions in the UK today with excellent exposure and has already produced some very well known fighters into larger promotions like the UFC. Myself and my coaches think this is a very positive step for me and will give me an opportunity to impress the World with my exciting style of fighting!”

Whilst when asked if he had anyone in mind for his CWFC debut; Mulholland replied “To be honest I do not have a hit list or potential targets as I am generally happy to fight any guys. I do not fear anyone in the Welterweight division as I have already fought some of the toughest guys around. I just love to do what I do and hopefully in due time the world will see the exciting fighter I am, as I aim to put on a show for the fans every time I fight”.

With an attitude like that CWFC fans are sure to be impressed when this talented youngster makes his Cage Warriors debut later this year in front of a live worldwide online and TV audience.

When asked for his thoughts, the CFWC Matchmaker Ian Dean was quoted as saying “Without a doubt Merv is a exciting prospect and the CWFC team is looking forward to seeing how he will perform when he makes his first steps into the shark infested waters of the Cage Warriors Welterweight division”.

No date has been set for Mulholland’s CWFC debut but it is expected he will see action inside the CWFC cage before the end of the year.
