CAGE WARRIORS CEO Graham Boylan has confirmed that Cathal Pendred’s next Cage Warriors outing will see him challenge for the CWFC welterweight title.

Pendred (11-2-1), who is undefeated in five fights on Cage Warriors, has had a particularly impressive 2012, which has seen him dispose of two highly-ranked opponents.

In June he secured a unanimous decision win over three-time UFC veteran David Bielkheden at Cage Warriors 47 in his hometown of Dublin, Ireland.

The 25-year-old followed that up with another win by unanimous decision against Bruno Carvalho in the main event at Cage Warriors 49 in Cardiff last month.

“Cathal has always delivered the goods on Cage Warriors and has never backed down from any challenge that we’ve put in front of him,” said Boylan.

“He’s been fighting guys of the highest calibre and there’s no doubt that he’s earned the title shot he’s been looking for.”

Pendred will be aiming to become the third Cage Warriors champion from the SBG Ireland camp. The welterweight strap is currently held by Frenchman Gael Grimaud (17-5).

Pendred’s team-mates Conor McGregor (11-2) and Chris Fields (10-4) are the current CWFC featherweight and middleweight champions respectively.

While no date has yet been confirmed for Pendred’s title challenge, it is likely to take place early in 2013.
