Nicolas Dalby took some damage in the first round before rebounding over the next four and defeating Mohsen Bahari to defend his Cage Warriors welterweight title. The title fight headlined Cage Warriors 74 at the Copper Box Arena in London’s Olympic Park.

Dalby (13-0) extended his unbeaten run as a pro with his first title defence. However, though Dalby was eager to engage in the bout’s opening minutes, Bahari (8-2) was ready for him and dished out plenty of punishment throughout the first round.

But in the second and third rounds, the momentum swung to Dalby’s favor. After a takedown and some ground and pound, he continued to bloody Bahari both standing and on the mat. As the rounds wore on, he continued chipping away as Bahari noticeably slowed and proved slower to the punch.

In the end, with a well-balanced attack of strikes, takedowns and ground and pound, Dalby earned the unanimous decision via 50-45 scores.

Joseph Duffy‘s return to MMA from the pro-boxing circuit resulted in another win – this one in violent and spectacular fashion. Duffy (12-1) knew fellow lightweight Julien Boussuge (12-4) wanted a takedown, so he simply waited for the opportunity and floored the Frenchman with a knee once he shot for the takedown.

Duffy, an Irishman who handed fast-rising UFC contender Conor McGregor his most recent defeat, forced the stoppage in just 36 seconds. He’s now 2-0 since returning from a three-year boxing sabbatical.

In the card’s first main event, Pannie Kianzad (6-0) cruised to a unanimous-decision victory over late replacement Eeva Siiskonen (3-2) to earn Cage Warriors’ inaugural women’s bantamweight title.

Siiskonen, who stepped in as a replacement for injured Agnieszka Niedzwiedz, was simply outgunned by Kianzad, who controlled the pace and proved superior on standing, on the mat and in the clinch.

Kianzad avoided submission attempts and rode out the first round in top position, and then in the second, the undefeated Swedish fighter opened up on her feet and outstruck Siiskonen with combinations and short lefts.

In the third and fourth rounds, Kianzad did her damage primarily from the clinch while using short elbows and knees with Siiskonen pressed against the cage.

With Siiskonen clearly down on the scorecards heading into the final round, the Finnish fighter went into desperation mode and frantically looked for the takedown. However, Kianzad remained upright and avoided any serious danger to make it to the final bell. In the end, the judges scored it 50-45, 50-45 and 49-46 for the new champ.

In the co-headliner of the first card, lightweight Saul Rogers (9-1) picked up a significant career victory and made a strong statement for a potential title fight by scoring a shutout unanimous-decision victory over Mick Sinclair (12-4). Rogers used a wrestling-heavy game-plan to earn the victory via 30-27 scores.

Also on the card, Nathaniel Wood (6-1) picked up a gruesome win over Steve McCombe (20-24-1) in a 140-pound catchweight fight. Wood landed a high kick and snapped McCombe’s forearm to force a verbal submission at the 2:23 mark of the opening round.
