‘The Bear’ Signs For Warrior Promotions

30/12/2008

Warrior Promotions Fighter Management are proud to announce that they have signedto their growing list of British talent. Broughton is one of the UK MMA scene’s premier Heavyweight fighters and is a fantastic addition to a already strong Warrior Promotions line-up.

A four year veteran of the sport, Broughton has fought across the UK and has learnt his trade in a variety of different shows. Standing at 6 feet 3 inches (188cm) and weighing just over 265 lbs/120kg, Broughton is an imposing figure within the UK/European Heavyweight ranks and possesses considerable skill to go with his size, which has seen him rack-up an impressive 8-4-1 professional MMA record, whilst also earning many plaudits for his powerful wrestling, ground and pound and durability

Broughton first gained national recognition in 2006 when he became the British Heavyweight Cage Rage Champion after defeating James “The Colossus” Thompson at Cage Rage 17 in Wembley Arena, on just one week’s notice. Broughton then went on to defeat Robert “Buzz” Berry by Knock Out and submitted the world renowned ex-World Super Heavyweight Boxing Champion, Eric “Butterbean” Esch later on that year. However Broughton’s win streak was ended in February 2007, when a cut eye in a bout against Tengiz Tedoradze forced a premature end to a closely fought contest.

Since then Broughton has battled injury on several occasions which has slowed his progress, but on his return to the Cage in March 2008, he showed his potential once again by ending the unbeaten record of Neil Grove at Cage Rage 25 by Majority Decision. Since then Broughton has only fought once more when he took a last minute fight against the former UFC Champion Ricco Rodriguez, back in October. On that occasion Broughton impressed again early on, but ultimately succumbed to a second round kneebar. However his performance was highly regarded by the MMA media, which has only increased Broughton’s determination to break through into the world scene.

With six wins out of his last eight bouts, Broughton is now looking to solidify his reputation in the UK MMA scene, and breakthrough onto the lucrative foreign circuit in 2009. To facilitate this process the Heavyweight powerhouse signed with Warrior Promotions in December 2008 and both sides are looking forward to Broughton making an impact on the world stage in the near future.

Upon hearing the news Andy Lillis, co-owner of Warrior Promotions was quoted as saying “We are really pleased to end the year with the signing of Rob ‘The Bear’ Broughton to our Management company. I know he has been approached by other management teams offering their services, but by signing with us, I think it shows just how well respected the Warrior Promotions team is, and how far we have come over the last few years. We are known for not pushing our fighters too fast too soon, but Rob has already paid his dues and defeated some of the best fighters that the UK has to offer, so we will be looking to push Rob internationally very soon in 2009.”

Warrior Promotions hope to secure a fight for their new Heavyweight star early in 2009 and are already reviewing several tempting offers from home and aboard, as they look forward to taking one of the UK’s top Heavyweight talents into the world scene where he belongs. Broughton joins the likes of Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy, Jim Wallhead, Rosi Sexton, Ross Pearson and more who have already signed to the UK based Sports Management Company.
