The Russian Legion And ‘Team World’ Call For Reinforcements In The M-1 Challenge
With the 7th edition of the M-1 Challenge less than two weeks away, both the Russian Legion and ‘Team World’ have been forced to ring the changes, as their preparations have been hit by numerous injuries and withdrawals which have altered their line-ups for the September 27th show in Nottingham, England.
First off, the Russian Legion were forced to announce four replacements in its team; as Yuri Ivlev, Islam Karimov, Ansar Chalangov and Besiki Gerinava are unable to participate in the UK leg of this exciting global tournament.
This has forced the coaches of the Russian Legion team to bring the following replacements to the UK. As some of the more experienced names are replaced by newer members of the travelling ‘Legion’ team.
70kg - Mysail ‘Musa’ Hamanaev (Russian Combat Sambo Champion)
76kg - Sergey Verdesh
83kg - Sergey Kornev
93kg - Gadzhimurad Omarov (Black Sea Cup and Pancration Champions’ Cup winner and Eurasian Pancration champion)
The four fighters will join up with the former BodogFIGHT Akhmed Sultanov (who is 1-1 in this year’s M-1 Challenge) in the Russian Legion team. With little about their replacements the Russian Legion will hope this will be a factor when they face the ‘World Team’ on September 27th.
However ‘Team World’ is not without its problems, as the powerful five man team which defeated ‘Team Japan’ 4-1 last month have also suffered numerous withdrawals, which have seen Norman Paraisy, Jordan Radev, Bruno Carvalho and Stefan Struve pull out from the September 27th show for a variety of reasons.
With time running out the coaches of ‘Team World’’ have been forced to call-up an inexperienced but promising group of individuals for their clash with the Russian Legion. These fighter will mostly be competing in the expanded M-1 Challenge 2009 season with their home nations, but are getting an early taste of what life is like this this tournament, later this month. These replacements include:
76kg - Jason Ponet (France)
84kg - Rosen Dimitrov (Bulgaria)
HW - Sylwester Oleksy
These three fighters will be joined by the promising Belgian Lightweight Wim Deputter (who will be looking to make amends for losing on his M-1 Challenge debut last month) and a Light-Heavyweight fighter who is yet to be decided. Warrior Promotions had hoped to fill that spot with a UK fighter, however none were forthcoming.
With the M-1 Challenge final looming both Teams will be looking to get maximum points in this five bout series. As a result both sides are hoping their their reinforcements will be ready for War, when they meet in Nottingham in just 10 days time.
This event also features a five bout series between ‘Team USA’ and the formidable Russian Red Devils, as they both aim to secure a place in the M-1 Challenge finals in December.
There will also be an additional 3 “Superfights” which includes the eagerly awaited Heavyweight rematch between local favourite and former Pro boxing star Wayne Buck, as he attempts to seek redemption against the Italian Muay Thai fighter Matteo “The Brutal” Minonzio. Whilst local favourites Cliff Hall and Christian Smith face off in an exciting local derby in a Middleweight Superfight. Whilst Jim Wallhead makes another appearance inside the Harvey Hadden Centre in a Welterweight Superfight.
As well as this exciting and innovative event; Warrior Promotions are also proud to announce a seminar featuring the former Pride FC star and current Red Devil Team Member & Coach, Aleksander Emelianenko. This international star is the younger brother of the formidable WAMMA Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko, and sports an impressive MMA record of 11-3 having fought some of the best names in the MMA world. He will be conducting a seminar with his team and will be looking to pass on some of the skills which have seen his team rise to the top of the MMA tree.
That’s not all as UK MMA Legend Ian ‘The Machine’ Freeman, the young upcoming MMA star & current Cage Warriors Champion, Gegard Mousasi and the UFC Welterweight Protege Dan ‘The Outlaw’ Hardy will also be attending this Seminar and the M-1 Challenge show later on in the day. This Seminar will take place between 12.00 pm to 3.00 pm on the day of the event. See below for ticket details.
