Michael 'The Count' Bisping
Hello everyone, and welcome to the Champions section of the new look cagewarriors.com. As most of you know, before moving on to the UFC I fought regularly on Cage Warriors events, capturing the Light Heavyweight title and successfully defending the belt 3 times. As well as this, I am a regular visitor to the Cage Warriors forum to catch all the latest news and gossip from the MMA world.
As you can see there are some changes happening around here, visually and content wise. One of the changes is the Champions section. This is going to regularly feature different CWFC Champions giving viewers a chance to see what makes them tick and find out what they have been getting up to, in and out of the MMA world.
Can I say thanks to the cagewarriors.com staff for selecting me to be the first fighter featured in this section, and also thanks for providing this excellent website and forum which has become a part of the furniture in the UK MMA front room, so to speak.
As far as myself is concerned I am busier than ever with developments inside and outside of the Octagon.
With my upcoming fight with Charles McCarthy getting closer and closer all the time the training is steadily getting harder. If you didn't already know, I will be fighting at middleweight for the first time in my career which is providing a fresh challenge.
I recently flew out to Vegas for some UFC business and hung around for a couple of weeks to do some training with Rampage and the boys. We were focusing on getting Kongo ready for his fight with Heath Herring, but I also managed to get in some great training, as well as catch up with the team from last summers training camp in Big Bear.
At 7 weeks out from the fight I am under the Light Heavyweight weight limit, which has kind of proven to me that I was undersized for that division. But, although being lighter I am getting stronger thanks to a new strength coach and according to my boxing coach Tony Quigley I am faster and hitting harder than I was previously, which is nice.
Away from the gym the UFC has had me busy with various bits of PR, attendances, interviews and body scans for video games. I have also just recently teamed up with the SUN online as an MMA columnist. This will be a new feature called Bisping bites back. Gotta say thanks to Mark Gilbert for the opportunity, so thanks.
I've also been fitting in the odd seminar as well. If you’re in Nottingham next weekend you can catch me at the Dragon Protector gym in Sandiacre. I’m at Glasgow Free Fighters on the 23rd of March and I will be at Reading Fight School in April. If you are interested in a seminar for your school then please email me at mike@bisping.tv .
