Rosi Sexton
Rosi Sexton is the current Cage Warriors Female World Champion and has an impressive MMA Record of 10-1-0. She is 32 years old and fights between 115 to 125lbs and stands at 5ft 4in / 162.5cm tall.
Sexton currently trains with an array of top coaches from around the UK, such as Pete Irving and Paul McVeigh (MMA), Billy Cooper (Wrestling), Jimmy Kelly (Boxing), Paul Tite (Muay Thai) and Ollie Richardson (Strength and Conditioning). Previously Rosi had trained under Karl Tanswell of SBGUK in Manchester, England, who guided her to CWFC Title glory and a multitude of wins overseas.
Sexton is an experienced Grappler and Submission fighter with over 9 years of MMA training experience behind her, as well as a long history in traditional Martial Arts that has seen her obtain a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. Not content with the physical side of her talents, Sexton also holds a PhD in theoretical computer science (Manchester), a 1st class Maths degree (Cambridge) and is currently studying to become an Osteopath.
Sexton has been the focus of numerous television documentaries, press articles and most recently an interview on ITV's flagship Breakfast show 'GMTV'. Sexton is also a Mother-of-one and successfully defended her CWFC Title in 2005 against Dina Van Den Hooven, just seven months after giving birth to her son.
Due to her exceptional skills; Sexton has fought around the world on several international events, such as the now defunct World Pro Fighting Championships (Las Vegas, USA), BodogFIGHT (Russia, Costa Rica and Canada), Elite XC (California, USA) and most recently the Bellator Fighting Championship (Florida, USA). In the process, this talented English fighter has also defeated such top opposition as Carina Damm, WINDY Tomomi, Julia Berezikova and Debi Percell, with her only defeat against the much heavier 145lbs female fighter Gina Carano, in a controversial catchweight bout at 140lbs.
After signing a 3 fight deal in the USA for Elite XC in 2008, Sexton fought and defeated the long time veteran and Female MMA pioneer Debi Purcell on August 15th 2008, which was broadcast on the Showtime Network in the USA. See the Sky News TV Feature about this.
However when Elite XC shut it's doors; Sexton was left once again without an event to fight on, until she signed with the Bellator Fighting Championship in the Spring of 2009. After a proposed fight fell through in April, Sexton finally got back into the Cage during their Season Finale on June 19th at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. On that date Sexton defeated Valerie Coolbaugh in a 125lbs bout, which saw the English fighter control her American counterpart throughout their bout and submitted her with an armbar after 3:40 of the first round.
Sexton is now set to return to the domestic scene where she hopes to make her debut at the 115lbs weight limit at Knuckle Up: Origin, which takes place in "The Centaur" at Cheltenham Racecourse on February 20th. This show is due to be broadcast on Sky Sports and also features several other WPFM contracted fighters. For more information on this please keep checking www.cagewarriors.com
Whilst Sexton is also hoping to participate in the rumoured Bellator Women's Tournament which is likely to take place in either the promotion's second or third season during 2010.
